D&SNG February Excursion 2019

Here’s your chance to ride Galloping Goose No. 5 in historic Durango, CO.

Join us for two weekends of fun on the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (D&SNG). The tentative dates are as follows.*

Friday, February 15, 2019RGS Goose No. 5 Winter Photographer’s Special. We will depart Durango at 8:00 am, meeting passenger train 261 at Tacoma and following the passenger train to Cascade Canyon. RGS Goose No. 5 will return from Cascade Canyon, following train 261, with arrival in Durango no later than 4:30 pm. This trip includes photo stops and video run bys.

Saturday, February 16, 2019Evening Photo Shoot. Southern Pacific 4-6-0 No. 18 (SP 18), on loan to the D&SNG from California, will pull a passenger photo train. Regularly scheduled passenger trains 261/262 will also operate. No Goose run today. Please join us for the evening photo shoot (6:30-8:30 pm) featuring Goose No. 5, SP 18 and D&SNG equipment. Tickets are extremely limited for the evening photo event. The evening photo shoot will focus on the D&SNG yard with shots including loading coal/sand, emptying ash pan, turntable, etc.). This is a great opportunity to photograph Goose No. 5 alongside historic railroad equipment in Durango, CO.

Sunday, February 17, 2019Evening Photo Shoot. The D&SNG will run their traditional photo passenger train to Cascade Canyon with freight cars on the head end. The consist will be different from what the railroad has run in previous years. No Goose run today. Please join us for the evening photo shoot (6:30-8:30 pm) featuring Goose No. 5, SP 18 and D&SNG equipment. Tickets are extremely limited for the evening photo event. The evening photo shoot will focus on the D&SNG yard with shots including loading coal/sand, emptying ash pan, turntable, etc.). This is a great opportunity to photograph Goose No. 5 alongside historic railroad equipment in Durango, CO.

Monday, February 18, 2019Ultimate Rail Fan Photo Excursion with SP 18 Mixed Freight. Southern Pacific 4-6-0 No. 18 (SP 18), on loan to the D&SNG from California, will pull a mixed freight made to look like a Southern Pacific consist. Photo opportunities include both RGS Galloping Goose No. 5 and SP 18. This special has very limited seating, and passengers will swap seats between trains at Cascade Canyon. This trip includes photo stops and video run bys.

Thursday, February 21, 2019School Special. RGS Goose No. 5 will run two round-trip excursions to Railroad Park for fifth-graders from the Dolores Primary School. This is an exclusive opportunity for local school children to ride Galloping Goose No. 5 on a historic working railroad.

Friday, February 22, 2019Goose No. 5 Cascade Canyon Excursion. RGS Goose No. 5 will run as a second section of passenger train 261/262 to Cascade Canyon. Photo stops are limited and brief on this excursion. We designed this trip as a less expensive “non-railfan” friendly way to ride RGS Goose No. 5 on a historic working railroad. If you’d like to ride the Goose with minimal disembarking, then this trip is for you. Bring your friends & family, and experience winter railroading at its best in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado!

Escalante Days

Visit our museum, ride the Goose, and enjoy the festivities!

Escalante Days is a community-wide festival that happens every August at our home base in Dolores, CO. This is a great opportunity to visit the museum, see the Goose in operation, and enjoy all the wonderful festivities that our town has to offer. We’ll be giving rides on Goose No. 5 during all three days of the festival. Bring the whole family!

National Narrow Gauge Convention - Sacramento, CA

Join us for the 39th annual Narrow Gauge Convention.

It’s only fitting that we should attend the National Narrow Gauge Convention in Sacramento, CA. We are so excited! We’ll have a table set up with lots of Goose-related goodies for sale including hats, shirts, jackets, pins, books, DVDs, lanterns and more. We also be giving clinics on the Rio Grande Southern Railroad and Goose No. 5. Note: The Goose will not be present at this event.

C&TS Fall Color Excursion 2019

Ride Goose No. 5 on the historic Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad

Enjoy autumn colors from the comfort of Goose No. 5 as we cruise the rails of the historic Cumbres & Toltec Railroad along the border of Colorado and New Mexico. Replete with rugged mountains, tumbling waterfalls, precipitous cliffs, tunnels, trestles and old-timey trains, the Cumbres & Toltec is mountain railroading at its best.

Old West Fest - Ridgway, CO

Help us break in the new track in Ridgway!

Come see Goose No. 5 operating at Ridgway Colorado’s “Old West Fest.” Goose No. 5 will join Motor No. 1, RGS Goose No. 4, and the newly built replica locomotive RGS No. 36 for a mini reunion running on the Ridgway Railroad Museum’s newly-constructed railroad.
