D&SNG February Excursion 2019

Here’s your chance to ride Galloping Goose No. 5 in historic Durango, CO.

Join us for two weekends of fun on the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (D&SNG). The dates are as follows.*

Friday, February 15, 2019RGS Goose No. 5 Winter Photographer’s Special.

Depart Durango at 8:00 am, meeting the regularly scheduled D&SNG passenger train powered by K-28 No. 476 at either Tacoma or milepost 474 and following the passenger train to Cascade Canyon. Enjoy a 30 minute lunch layover at Cascade Canyon. Goose passengers may purchase lunch from the concession car or bring their own. Passengers may also pre-purchase a box lunch. Snap photos of the departing passenger train before hopping on RGS Goose No. 5 for the return trip to Durango, arriving in town by 4:00 pm. This trip includes video run-by and photo stops. Cost: $169 per person.

Saturday, February 16, 2019Evening D&SNG Yard Photo Shoot.

Join the Goose crew for an evening photo shoot (6:00-9:00 pm) featuring Goose No. 5, Southern Pacific No. 18 (on loan from California) and D&SNG equipment. Tickets are extremely limited for the evening photo event. The evening photo shoot will focus on the D&SNG yard with shots including loading coal/sand, emptying ash pan, turntable, etc. This is a great opportunity to photograph Goose No. 5 alongside historic railroad equipment in Durango, CO. Cost: $74 per person + Winter Photo Special ticket.

Sunday, February 17, 2019Evening D&SNG Yard Photo Shoot.

The fun continues with another evening of photos (6:00-9:00 pm) featuring Goose No. 5, Southern Pacific No. 18 and D&SNG equipment. This photo shoot will feature different photo opportunities than the night before. Cost: $74 per person + Winter Photo Special ticket.

Monday, February 18, 2019Ultimate Rail Fan Photo Excursion with Goose No. 5 and SP 18.

Fill your camera’s memory card with images of Southern Pacific 4-6-0 No. 18 (SP 18), on loan to the D&SNG from California, pulling a mixed freight dressed up like a train that would have run in eastern California. Photo opportunities abound, including both RGS Galloping Goose No. 5 and SP 18 running together. This special has very limited seating, and passengers will swap seats between trains at Cascade Canyon. The trip includes video run-by and photo stops. Cost: $289 per person.

Friday, February 22, 2019Goose No. 5 Cascade Canyon Excursion.

If you just want to ride the Goose, then today is your day! Depart at 10:00 am, and enjoy true mountain railroading as RGS Goose No. 5 trundles along the tracks to Cascade Canyon. Note: We will not make photo stops during this run. We designed this trip as an affordable way to ride RGS Goose No. 5 on a historic working railroad with minimal stops. Bring your friends & family, and experience authentic winter railroading in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado! Cost: $115 per person.

Saturday, February 23, 2019Goose No. 5 Cascade Canyon Excursion.

Here’s another opportunity to experience winter mountain railroading at its best! Grab your seat up front with the crew, depart Durango at 10:00 am, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the railroad through the front window of the Goose. You’ll make your way over bridges and cliffs into the high country of Cascade Canyon. Note: We will not make photo stops during this run. We designed this trip as an affordable way to ride RGS Goose No. 5 on a historic working railroad with minimal disembarking. Bring the whole family, and join us in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado! Cost: $115 per person.

Escalante Days

Visit our museum, ride the Goose, and enjoy the festivities!

Escalante Days is a community-wide festival that happens every August at our home base in Dolores, CO. This is a great opportunity to visit the museum, see the Goose in operation, and enjoy all the wonderful festivities that our town has to offer. We’ll be giving rides on Goose No. 5 during all three days of the festival. Bring the whole family!

National Narrow Gauge Convention - Sacramento, CA

Join us for the 39th annual Narrow Gauge Convention.

It’s only fitting that we should attend the National Narrow Gauge Convention in Sacramento, CA. We are so excited! We’ll have a table set up with lots of Goose-related goodies for sale including hats, shirts, jackets, pins, books, DVDs, lanterns and more. We also be giving clinics on the Rio Grande Southern Railroad and Goose No. 5. Note: The Goose will not be present at this event.

C&TS Fall Color Excursion 2019

Ride Goose No. 5 on the historic Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad

Enjoy autumn colors from the comfort of Goose No. 5 as we cruise the rails of the historic Cumbres & Toltec Railroad along the border of Colorado and New Mexico. Replete with rugged mountains, tumbling waterfalls, precipitous cliffs, tunnels, trestles and old-timey trains, the Cumbres & Toltec is mountain railroading at its best.

Old West Fest - Ridgway, CO

Help us break in the new track in Ridgway!

Come see Goose No. 5 operating at Ridgway Colorado’s “Old West Fest.” Goose No. 5 will join Motor No. 1, RGS Goose No. 4, and the newly built replica locomotive RGS No. 36 for a mini reunion running on the Ridgway Railroad Museum’s newly-constructed railroad.
